Description
The Kaikoura coast and the whales who frequent its waters are the constant elements in this wide-ranging historical novel. The human presence seems transient as generation succeeds generation yet the different people who inhabit the coast all leave their mark on the land and contribute to the culture of the present occupants. Still, as the centuries pass, the geological forces at work deep within the land itself make all other influences seem puny and inconsequential.
