Description
307 pages of amazing ideas, with a total of 104 different subjects including such things as scarfing, splining, steering, gland packing, pipe tools, dinghy dilemmas, sealants, creative cleats, mildew and unwelcome visitors.
This book is a product of many decades afloat during which many nautical problems have been overcome, either temporarily or permanently, in mid ocean or at isolated anchorages. Also, in the midst of normal maintenance and refitting, a variety of simple ideas on how to enhance life aboard have been turned into reality with the simplest of materials.
Much of the material in this book has appeared in one magazine or another since the early 1960’s, either from Alan Lucas himself or via other sailors, making this, in essence, a compilation volume. Despite this, (or because of it), Simple Solutions is the ideal book of book of hints, tips, ideas, suggestions and solutions to some of the everyday problems encountered afloat as experienced (and remedied) by sailors themselves.
