John Illingworth has established his reputation as one of Britain’s top ocean racing helmsmen and yacht designers, and is the author of the classic of sailing literature, Offshore. As a racing skipper he won his first championship in 1929, and his numerous successes have included the Fastnet in 1947, 1949, 1955 and 1957, the Sydney-Hobart in 1945, and seven first places in his J.O.G boat, Wista.
