Description
From the Foreword by the author:
“The story of the voyage of the four-masted barque Parma in the grain “race” of the last of the sailing ships from Australia to the English Channel completes the picture which I set out to give of the graceful wind ships before the last of them departed – a picture which was begun in Falmouth for Orders and continued in By way of Cape Horn.
The three books deal with a voyage that in its elements is much the same: yet it is always different and, I think, always worth writing about. I saw it and described it as a sailor first (upon many occasions), and now with new eyes as one of the afterguard, I have tried to do for the last of Sail what I wish someone had done for the clippers.”
