Description
Uffa Fox needs no introduction – he is today’s great name in yachting.
During his apprenticeship he helped to build the early flying boats and the first hydroplane to do over 50 knots.
He served with the R.N.A.S during the 1914 – 18 war, and after completing his apprenticeship started his own firm, de-signing and building many boats and winning innumerable races.
During the 1939 – 45 war he designed and built craft for the Admiralty, War Office and the Air Ministry. One of these was the self-baling and self-righting Airborne Lifeboat, powered and fueled for 1,000 miles, with sufficient food aboard for a month. Launched by parachute and capable of carrying 25 men in any sea, it saved many a gallant airman’s life.
Married to a charming French wife, he is a colourful and dynamic person … a national figure
