Description
After crossing the Atlantic – described by the authors as “slaying the dragon” – they arrived on the south-west coast of England, where they coasted eastwards, stopping where the fancy held them and where good friends were made. They wintered at Poole, in Dorset about half way along the south coast, to work to pay for the next leg of the trip – the Baltic in the spring.
They visited Denmark, Sweden, Finland and dealt with armed guards on the Polish waterfront who watched while people greeted them with flowers, fruits and sweets. They weathered a fierce mast-under broach in a Baltic gale on their way to Cuxhaven in Germany, and then back for another winter in England.
From there they set out for the Mediterranean – and the adventures described in their books reviewed above!
