Description
“Weather is a mix of pattern and chaos”, says Bob McDavitt, the MetService Weather Ambassador. Bob has a B.Sc (hons) degree from Victoria University in Wellington. He has been a meteorologist since 1975 and has developed a wide experience of forecasting New Zealand weather. He has also spent 4 years as a forecaster in Fiji, and is a veteran of two campaigns for the America’s Cup (in Perth and San Diego). In 1998 he was awarded the “Henry Hill award” for his enthusiastic approach to sharing ideas about the weather.
As Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt has been in Auckland, New Zealand, since 1992 focussing on promoting friendly relations with weather users. This involves communicating awareness about incoming weather events, keeping an eye on the impact of weather on any special events, and arranging MetService promotions, displays and exhibitions. He has produced this book to help those who are sailing in the South West Pacific to work with the weather patterns they will encounter in this region.
