CAPTAIN'S WALKING STICK (ALSO KNOWN AS PRINCE BERTIE'S TIPPLING STICK).It was widely known that Queen Victoria, bless her soul, had Edward, the Prince of Wales under constant vigilance. She just could not appreciate his penchant for the occasional tipple, not to speak of his habit of betting on the races. The Queen, however, did not count on the Prince's clever Bond Street haberdasher. A special tippling stick was devised for the Prince that contained two secret compartments. Upon unscrewing the brass head, a secret vial sprang into view holding a much-needed remedy against bitter cold and boring meetings. Inside the brass head itself was a hidden compass, useful at times for retracing the way back home to the Royal Palace.
The walking stick unscrews into 3 parts for easy storage, transport or mailing.
27' CHRIS CRAFT TRIPLE COCKPIT 1930's INCLUDING SHOWCASE
Dimensions are 80cm long x 22cm wide x 20cm high.
HARVEY CLIPPER INCLUDING SHOWCASE
Dimensions are 82cm long x 18cm wide x 57cm high.
The US Warships were a fairly new breed that introduced many new innovations in the 1800's. Lightly gunned Frigates such as the Constitution, Constellation and Essex proved they were able to outclass the huge lumbering British warships with their speed and maneuverability.
During the War of 1812, an even newer class of US Warship emerged out of Chesapeake Bay. They were known as the Baltimore Packets, but soon became the Baltimore Clipper. These schooners were lightly gunned, sleek and very fast. So fast they could sail almost directly into the wind at full speed!
The Harvey exemplified this class of roving privateers, overtaking and capturing British merchantmen laden with cargo to support the British expeditionary forces then attempting to recapture the former colonies. The Harvey was also used during the California gold rush, when it ran blockades and transported valuable cargo from New York to San Francisco.
CAPTAIN COOK'S ENDEAVOUR INCLUDING SHOWCASE.
Dimensions are 90cm long x 20cm wide x 80cm high.
His Majesty's Bark Endeavour was a small 18th century British sailing ship, famous for being the vessel commanded by Lt. (later Captain) James Cook, on his first voyage of discovery to the Pacific Ocean and of course New Zealand.
Endeavour was originally a merchant collier named Earl of Pembroke, whose construction was completed by early 1768 at Whitby, North Yorkshire. She was ship-rigged, and sturdily built with a capacious hold. Despite not being very fast her flat-bottomed hull was well-suited to sailing in shallow waters and more importantly for her proposed use, she was, like other colliers of the north-east coast of England, designed to be beached. Her overall length was 32.3 m (keel 27.7 m), beam 8.9 m, and she weighed 400 tonnes (397 tons).
J CLASS ENDEAVOUR.
Dimensions are 70cm long x 13cm wide x 94cm high.
Endeavour, a 130-foot J Class sloop, was commissioned by Sir Tom Sopwith and built by Camper & Nicholson at Gosport England to challenge for the America's Cup in 1934. Having prepared his campaign in Shamrock V, Sopwith was keen to ensure that this yacht was the most advanced design possible. With his experience designing aircraft Sopwith applied aviation technology to Endeavour's rig and winches and spared nothing to make her the finest vessel of her day. From launching in 1934 she continued her preparation by competing against Shamrock V (then owned by Sir Richard Fairey) and the newly launched Velsheda (owned by W.L Stephenson). She swept through the British racing fleet and into the hearts of yachtsmen the world around, winning many races in her first season. Like many before her, Endeavour did not win the Cup but she came closer to doing so than any other challenger.
DORY MODEL INCLUDING GLASS SHOWCASE.This plank-on-frame model by Colin Childs, a boat designer and builder, is a faithful copy of the centreboard sailing vessels used as fishing boats in Europe and the USA, towards the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries. Now popular as easy-to-build recreational craft, in this model the mast and sails are dismountable - as with full size practice. The rudder and tiller are fitted as with pintals and hangers as in full-size practice and the whole is enclosed in a good quality glass case. The model will make an excellent sideboard or desk talking piece and decoration.
