By the time a crew have reached Gibraltar they will have had ample opportunity to prove their preparedness and plenty of places to seek technical help if required.
This fifth edition has been completely redesigned to incorporate the clearer layout and use of colour that is being introduced into all of the RCC's pilots. There are more coastal plans and these are used to display approach and entrance waypoints.

ITALIAN WATERS PILOT.
By Rod Heikell. Hardback, 215mm x 303mm, 453 pages, Full Colour photographs maps and charts.
This book is the only guide for yachtsmen in English that covers the coasts of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Sardinia, Sicily, the Ionian 'heel' and Malta in one volume.
This seventh edition contains numerous revisions throughout, but in particular the text, plans and photographs for Liguria and the northern Tyrrhenian have been completely overhauled. There are a large number of new and amended plans and Rod Heikell has taken a lot of care to research the details of marina developments. Where it has been available information is given on proposed changes and extensions to yacht harbours. Marine reserves are now an important feature of the coasts and off-lying islands, particularly in Sardinia and Sicily, and this edition provides updated details of the latest regulations.
Italian Waters Pilot is the last word on the area for yachts cruising there and on their way between the western and eastern parts of the Mediterranean. It links up with Rod Heikell's companion guides on France, Greece and Turkey which are acclaimed as the best pilot books currently available.
INLAND WATERWAYS MAP - EUROPE.
By David Edwards-May, 148mm x 236mm, foldout map. 2008 edition.
This directory contains essential information on the existing situation and potential development of inland waterways of each European country featured on the map and details of at least the main waterway authorities and associations. The publisher aims to give the broadest possible picture of inland waterways, covering all navigable dimensions and uses, from modern inland shipping to the various forms of recreational boating. This format of a general introduction is preferred to a formal database approach with hard statistics for each country: length of waterways under each category, barge fleet details, traffic, inland ports etc. Such information has been compiled, for commercial waterways at least, by the UN Economic Commission for Europe, and usefully complements its own map of European waterways.
INLAND WATERWAYS MAP - NORTH AMERICA.
By David Edwards-May, 148mm x 236mm, foldout map.
This map is designed for all inland waterways users, advocates, boaters and enthusiasts. It offers for the first time an overview of inland navigations past and present, throughout North America, at a scale of 1:3 300 300. Plan inland water transport - Imagine the cruise of a lifetime on the Great Circle Route - Explore new possibilities for boating and angling - Locate marvels of canal and waterway engineering spanning more than two centuries - Identify heritage sites, visitor centers and waterway restoration projects. This map and its practical index offer a unique new perspective on the lakes, rivers and canals which have played such an important role in the history of two nations, as well as offering enormous potential for future development.
WATERWAY ROUTES THROUGH FRANCE.
By Jane Cumberlidge, 183mm x 247mm, foldout map.
This pictorial map is an ideal single source of practical information for boats passing from the English Channel to the Mediterranean through the French canal system. It covers the Seine to Paris and the popular routes from Calais and Dunkerque through central France to the Rhone.
Broken into clear geographical areas, the mapping is annotated with text which describes each route, provides vital canal dimensions and distances and shows long-stay mooring places. The commentary is illustrated with colour photographs and highlights some of the places to visit and interesting features en route. This map also provides the essential information to the Mediterranean, choice of routes, overwintering locations, cruising in winter, regulations, useful equipment and organising the cruise.
INLAND WATERWAYS OF GREAT BRITAIN.
By Jane Cumberlidge, hardcover, 215mm x 303mm, 303 pages, foldout map included.
This book is the only single volume to cover all the inland navigations in England, Wales and Scotland.
In this new edition, several recently reopened canals, and others where restoration is well advanced, have returned to the main body of the book with their own detailed entries. All the waterways plans have been redrawn, as has the comprehensive map of the whole system which is again included with the book.
Many thousands of people now enjoy Britain's rivers and canals from the bank or townpath as well as afloat, and these interests are reflected in several sections of the book. You will also find information about boat hire companies and suggestions for interesting holiday routes.
CRUISING BULGARIA AND ROMANIA.
By Nicky Allardice, papercover, 210mm x 297mm, 107 pages, monochrome photos.
This book aims to encourage many more yachtsmen to discover the pleasures of cruising the Lower Danube and the western Black Sea, to visit the ports and harbours and the miles of unspoilt beaches in these fascinating areas.
For the visiting yachtsmen, the cruising areas of Bulgaria and Romania - the River Danube, parts of the Black Sea coast, and the Danube Delta, a special area in its own right - offer a fascinating diversity. Despite being close geographical neighbours, Bulgaria and Romania are culturally very different. Bulgaria shares the Orthodox religion and Slavic cultural roots of Russia and Serbia, whereas Romania is a country with Latin cultural traditions similar to other western Mediterranean countries. Srebarna lake, the North Romanian Black Sea coast, Kamchia and Strandja and the Danube Delta are internationally important as nature reserves and as homes to some rare and endangered species.
The River Danube is one of Europe's most ancient thoroughfares but between Vienna and Bratislava the number of vessels on the river drops dramatically and the area is still relatively unknown to foreign boats. With Bulgaria and Romania's entry into the EU it is hoped that visiting the waterways of the Danube will be easier than ever before.
CORSICA & NORTH SARDINIA.
By John Marchment, papercover, 210mm x 297mm, 213 pages, colour photos and charts.
Corsica and North Sardinia may be well known to French and Italian yachtsmen but many sailors entering the Meditteranean through the Straits of Gibraltar tend to bypass this area as they head east. They miss a wonderful cruising ground which extends well beyond the Bonifacio Straits. Whilst one must keep a watch on the weather, careful cruise planning can lead to many quiet and remote anchorages and also some stunning coastal scenery, particularly on the northwest coast of Corsica. Those who want a break from the sea can enjoy towns full of history, or gain a closer view of the dramatic mountains by taking the Ajaccio train into the rugged interior.
John Marchment has now built on his knowledge of this area and his earlier revision and extension of Robin Brandon's original pilotage work.
